my birthday

I had a great three-day-long birthday celebration commencing with receiving a care package in the mail from Erin on Friday morning. Then going out to the Melting Pot with Nikolay, Emily and Jacob Friday night for some well deserved grown up fun time. Saturday I went shopping by myself and finally found my long sought after "long skirt" (it is two layers of colorful silk that can be wrapped around and transformed in a million ways) and hit the Bath and Body Works sale to stock up on soap and stuff like I did last year on my birthday. Saturday evening Svetlana came over with one of those wonderful 15 layer cakes that she orders from an Armenian guy (remember at Dallin's blessing last year). Adriana gave me mums , she just love flowers for any occasion. Ariel gave me a super duper cheese grater and Nikolay a beautiful glass pitcher. We can finally get rid of our purple-plastic-left-over-from-Erin's-wedding-
reception-eight-years-ago-one.

I have been totally milking the birthday girl thing. Like Nikolay made the bed, and I got to talk to Maegan when she called in the middle of putting the kids to bed because it was my birthday, and I got out of the dishes and tons of other stuff. I just don't know what I'll do with myself when we are out of this child-rearing season in our lives.

I can't wait to find out what kind of weird cuisine there is in Iowa. I totally forgot about fry sauce! And do people actually make French fries at their house? Jello. I remember stocking up on it when Campbell got her tonsils out because I thought it would be something she could eat. Problem was I never make Jello, so my kids don't like it.

Glad you had such a good birthday!

I'm *from* Utah and I think both of this incidents are weird. Most people don't make fry sauce at home (and I kept thinking "how could you make too much!? Nobody makes that much at a time!" until I read the rest of your post.) I've only made fry sauce at home on a few occassions when we've brought fast food home and it's a place with onion rings that only taste good with fry sauce. And then I make a teeny bit on my plate. Jacob's friend Spencer was here visiting last time I did it and he started complaining about Utah...and fry sauce I guess and I kind of ripped his face off... but that's another story. He's just annoying.

I'm so glad you had a good birthday! We had a great time with you over the weekend. It was nice to get to talk without any kids for 3 whole hours! I don't think we've ever done that before!! Haha.

That was such a funny read, I am sure it was made funnier due to the fact that I knew immediately who you had a fry sauce conversation with and then it brought back memories of our first meeting. I am shocked you were not asked to bring fry sauce to our first dinner party (the dinner was strange!) We need to get together and chat. I am sorry for missing book club, I have not had a chance to read! Well, I did just finish the Host...Let's start our own bookclub?!?!
