Pioneer Day

Our ward had a Pioneer Day picnic this year. Two minutes before piling into the car, I told the girls they might want to wear their pioneer bonnets. It is the only day in the year when they can wear them. Ariel is sporting one that Adriana's preschool teacher made for the whole class and Adriana and Annika are wearing ones my Mom made when we were kids. This led to a complete independent wardrobe change.

They even found a cowboy hat, vest, and handkerchief for Dallin in the costume box. The kids were a little bummed that they were the only ones who dressed up. I was a little bummed that the picnic that was supposed to start at 3:00 in the 100 degree weather didn't really get going until about 5:00, so by the time a lot of people started arriving and we got to eat, our family was pretty tuckered out. We left early and I still don't know if there we any Pioneer Day like celebrations like when I was little. I guess we'll know for next year, to come a few hours late. The funny thing about this part of Pennsylvania is that there really are people who still where bonnets and cowboy hats, so maybe some people just thought we were Mennonites or something.
I had to zoom in on this smile as proof that it does happen. He does like playing with his kids, even if he doesn't like smiling for cameras.

I love the bonnets! Way to be the Pioneer Day pioneer in Pennsylvania! Someone has to teach those eastern Mormons how to do things right.
Also, awesome blog header. Love it.
